You Chose: Robin's Path

This page explores the impact Tale of Tales made in the early days of the gaming industry.

Tale of tales was founded in 2003, in Belgium by artists Auriea Harvey and Michaƫl Samyn. The two sought to create video games as art, not just as a mode of play.

Very few had this outlook on video games before the creation of their company. That made it so their take on video games as art made them pioneers in the gaming industry of the 2000's, all the way up and until today! The thought of making games as an artistic experience for everyone to enjoy, not just as product to be bought, brought in mixed reactions from both communities respectively.

Some people who encountered their early games were enraged and felt cheated out of a full game, and accused them of making lazy "walking simulators" for a few quick bucks. The Graveyard and The Endless Forest elicited these reactions the most out of anything they had made in the beginning of their careers.

The creators stated multiple times that the purpose of their games wasn't to be a good game, but to give those playing a meaningful, interactive art experience. They are supposed to elicit emotions, challenge views, and change perspectives just as art does in the real world.
